Kdramas
Before we traveled to Korea in 2008, we were looking for ways to learn more about the country and people. Besides a little language study, reading up on current events, and trying different dishes at Hoban's, we decided that watching some top shows from Korea would be a great way to get a snapshot of pop culture.
Kdramas (Korean Dramas) are a fun way to explore Korea. You can hear the language, take in the nonverbal communication, and see the current styles and boys haircuts. We watched the romantic comedy series Coffee Prince before we traveled and loved it! Gong Yoo plays Han Kyul in this series and he is soo cute :-)
Coffee Prince won many awards, including 2007 MBC Acting Awards for Yoon Eun Hye and Gong Yoo, as well as the best TV drama award and the 2008 Korean Producers' Award. The series has aired throughout Asia, and was really popular in the Philippines.

We also caught up on the 2010 hit Boys Before Flowers. (Sometimes called Boys Over Flowers, I'm not sure why aside from something in the translation.)

There are a number of different sites where you can watch these for free, including www.mysoju.com (Korean, Japanese, and Taiwanese Drama) and of course, www.hulu.com.
I love that we can see real time shows starring Korean actors aside from Hawaii Five-O :-)
